peeters born in antwerp son of cornelis peeters , catharina van eelen. brother of painters gillis, bonaventura , catharina. studied brothers bonaventura , gillis joannes boots. became master of antwerp s guild of st. luke in 1645.

he active in hoboken near antwerp 1645 1654, working in brother bonaventura’s workshop. in 1654 married catherine buseliers , moved antwerp. couple had 2 children, johannes franciscus , isabella. johannes franciscus became painter whom little known certainty.


in 1659 jan peeters spent 6 months in dutch republic drawing panoramas of several towns , harbours. these later engraved gaspar bouttats. because of many drawings of distant locations believed have travelled throughout france, italy, libya, cairo , jerusalem. however, equally possible of these drawings relied on designs of other artists, such nephew bonaventura ii reportedly merchant sailor artist.


he teacher of adriaen van bloemen. died in antwerp.
