description

this class strictly derived previous ale 582 , ale 724 emus, sharing of mechanical , technical characteristics. main differences in electrical part (especially traction control , low tension circuitry) , presence of 2nd class seatings. frontal part containing cabins consists of preformed structure made of polyester reinforced fiberglass. had navetta livery, painted in gray orange , red lateral stripes; have received usual green-white xmpr livery.

like previous emus on based on, class 642 can divided in 1 or more sections containing varying number of elements:



ale 642.001 ÷ 60, engine units driving cabins;
le 764.101 ÷ 140, non motorized carriage units (76 seats, 45 t);
le 682.001 ÷ 022, non motorized carriage units driving cabin (68 seats, 46 t).

each section must contain @ least 1 ale , 1 le, driving cabin on each end; train can formed maximum of 2 sections coupled scharfenberg type automatic coupler. basic section arrangement are:



m + r + rp
m + r + r + rp
m + r + r + m
m + rp

where m ale 642, r le 764 , rp le 682.


electrical description

engine units employ 4 direct current traction motors placed inside bogies, 2 each 1 of them.


they fed choppers, 1 per bogie; unlike ale 724, regulation shunt-chopper type , resistor used when accelerating @ low speeds, full-chopper system used on ale 582 difference in case have 3 frequency choppers (582 employ single frequency ones).


chopper regulation allows rheostatic braking (active above/until 35 km/h (22 mph), 7 km/h (4.3 mph) if using pneumatic braking) , current generated motors can sent overhead supply line if there other trains able absorb it. interlocking valve limits 0.4 bars pressure brake cylinders of ales when electrically braking.


low tension circuitry employs 24 v batteries (110 v on ale 724 , ale 582) recharged 380 v three-phase 70 kva dc/ac static converters, located on engine units , le 682 , supply electric current auxiliary services.
