the shooting began when gunman entered prisma hypermarket , began firing 9×19mm handgun. preliminary reports indicated 4 fatalities @ mall, 3 men , 1 woman. victims, aged 27, 40, 42 , 45, employees of prisma. woman, identified suspect s ex-girlfriend, found dead in espoo apartment in connection case. ex-girlfriend employee of prisma, , finnish police speculated main target. alleged shkupolli killed former girlfriend first in apartment, , after moved on kill boyfriend @ shopping mall both worked. believed lover 1 of 4 victims, , had been shot twice in head. suspect, identified 43-year-old kosovar albanian ibrahim shkupolli, seen walking shop disappeared, sparking major manhunt involved police helicopters.


later day, shkupolli found dead in apartment in kirstinmäki, espoo, in apparent suicide. apartment empty except mattress, framed photo of ex-girlfriend, 14 loaded magazines gun, , bag containing additional 273 cartridges. according neighbour heard gunshot, shkupolli had shot himself @ 11:13. finnish police evacuated , cordoned off shopping centre, , blocked off nearby railway station. emergency services arrived on scene including dozens of ambulances , several fire engines.


the gun used czechoslovakian made 9mm cz 75 pistol, manufactured in 1984 , sold in norway gun went missing due unsolved burglary case in 1990. questions of how , when shkupolli acquired remain unknown. first victim, woman found in apartment, killed smith & wesson-branded hunting knife. body had long , deep incised wound reaching cervical spine. apartment had no signs of struggle.
