the hessian brown coal mining museum, founded in 1992, presents under theme of discover industrial culture – experience landscape change many exhibits coal-mining , electrical generation, workings demonstrated visitors. these exhibits include underground , above-ground mining of raw material, brown coal, use, , conversion of former mining lands centrepiece.
the visitor may choose among 4 museum areas:
in 3.5 ha experience-oriented coal & energy theme park, rattling excavators, humming turbines , smoking power station kettles show how coal mined pits, , how used energy.
a reconstructed gallery displays miners work , everyday lives, , shows through original equipment change in mining procedures.
a permanent exhibition presents 400-year history of hessian brown coal mining.
the borkener see nature conservation information centre explains how second-hand landscapes fashioned former strip mining areas.
the visitors mine , mining history exhibit housed in borken s oldest building, amtsgericht – built in 1473 – in old town. coal & energy theme park , adjoining borkener see nature conservation information centre found freilichtmuseum ( @ open-air museum ) before town s gates.
