on july 1, 2007, new york times reported universal (currently world s largest music corporation) not renew annual contract sell music through itunes. instead, universal said market music apple @ will, allowing remove songs itunes service on short notice if 2 sides did not agree on pricing or other terms.

on august 9, 2007, umg announced plan sell songs in mp3 format, without digital rights management, through variety of online services such amazon music , newly created gbox. while these tracks continue available through itunes store, universal chose license these songs in drm-free formats through other services.

nbc universal tv series

on august 31, 2007, apple announced programs on nbc s 2007–08 television schedule not available on itunes. nbc had informed apple previous day not renewing contract. later clarified change applied series produced nbc universal-owned universal media studios, including universal-produced shows on other networks such house. nbc programs produced other studios, such chuck (warner bros.) , journeyman (20th century fox), remain available on itunes.
