geology

the cliff formed during ice age, approximately 10,000 years ago, when edges of glacier reached cliff. water glacier froze in crevices of mountain , broke off large, angular blocks, later carried away glacier. cause of angular shape of plateau. along plateau there continues deep crack. due these cracks, plateau @ point fall down, geological investigations have revealed not happen in foreseeable future, , geologists have confirmed safety of plateau.

along fjord there mild , humid coastal climate.


surrounding landscape

the cliff overlooks lush green valleys of ryfylke region. mountains surrounding cliff reach heights of 843 metres (2,766 ft). of hilltops have plains interspersed lakes.


nearby, close bottom of lysefjorden, 1,110-metre (3,640 ft) tall mountain kjerag popular hiking destination. recently, tourists have elected forego trips increasingly popular , crowded preikestolen , go kjerag instead.
