however, revelations of sherwood s five-year-long extramarital affair woman more 30 years junior, along allegations of abuse, severely hampered sherwood s reelection chances in 10th, has strong social conservative tint. carney garnered endorsement of 30 labor unions. in election, carney defeated sherwood, 53% 47%.


during campaign, carney raised money wide-variety of supporters including sen. barack obama, sen joe biden, rep. jay inslee, rep. jack murtha, , richard perle, former chairman of defense policy board advisory committee douglas feith, former under secretary of defense policy, congratulated carney on election night.


2008

carney 1 of few incumbent democrats rated vulnerable in election cycle, because freshman running in republican district (its cook partisan voting index r+8). national republican congressional committee advertised hackett, while service employees international union , democratic congressional campaign committee—which among organizations identifying carney vulnerable—advertised on behalf, placing special emphasis on vote increase in federal minimum wage $7.25 2009, measure passed both houses of congress , signed law bush on may 24, 2007.
