the aircraft taxied runway 25. during departure briefing, captain decided not follow company s standard procedure , have climb @ 320° instead of 280°. maximum measured wind had been recorded @ 57 knots (106 km/h) while aircraft had been parked. aircraft asked clearance @ 14:42:10; granted, , air control informed wind @ west end between 210° , 290°, varying 18 34 knots (33 63 km/h). eastern wind not communicated aircraft, 270°, varying 20 40 knots (37 74 km/h). take-off started @ 14:42:43 , aircraft airborne after having passed half runway. witnesses described aircraft after take-off climbed quickly, started falling, , climbed again. entered clouds west of airport. during climb, captain wanted keep flaps @ 10°, contradictory standard procedure involved decreasing flaps. @ 14:43:09, rattling sound registered on cockpit voice recorder (cvr). thirty-five seconds later, sounds unsynchronized propellers registered. co-pilot indicates flight in difficulty. 8 seconds later, @ 14:43:52, cvr stopped recording. @ 14:43:54, control tower @ værøy registered distress signal, lasted 4 seconds, followed loud bang. aircraft repeatedly called radio. @ 14:50, bodø air traffic control center contacted.


the joint rescue coordination centre of northern norway in bodø dispatched 2 helicopters , 2 ships, 1 helicopter , 1 ship had return due bad weather had increased hurricane. @ 16:45, parts of aircraft found 3.5 nautical miles (6.5 km) northwest of værøy airport. after weather improved, 1 rescue ship, 4 fishing vessels , 1 westland sea king used find wreck. on 13 april, twelve ships , 2 helicopters being used, , several parts wreck found. allowed searching crew use divers search wreck. aircraft found on 15 april, 2,300 metres (7,500 ft) airport. eighty percent of wreck found within area of 300 400 m (980 1,310 ft) , @ 10 m (33 ft) depth.


the deceased captain idar nils persen (40), co-pilot arnt vidar grønneflåta (31), , passengers stig myrvoll (25), frank bakkeli (27) , runa dagny søraa (23). passengers died upon impact, captain s body never found.
