during ottoman period, in 1667, kifisia visited turkish traveler evliya Çelebi. described small country town set in fertile plain of paradisaic beauty, 3 hundred tile-roofed houses. half inhabitants of town muslims , half christians. records there single mosque, without minaret, , many small christian chapels - of survive today.
