biography

solow born jewish family in new york city. after graduation dartmouth college in 1953, solow hired william morris agency in new york city work in mailroom. in 1954, promoted talent agent. later hired nbc , transferred los angeles in 1960 , subsequently hired cbs director of daytime programs, west coast. returned nbc year later director of daytime programs.


the middle 1960s: desilu before paramount merger

in 1964, joined desilu studios , appointed vice president of production in 1964. solow oversaw development, sales, , production of star trek, mission: impossible, , mannix.


at mgm

solow joined mgm television vice president in charge of television production. there oversaw development , production of medical center, came bronson (produced robert h. justman , robert sabaroff), , courtship of eddie s father. later, solow appointed mgm s vice president of worldwide television , motion picture production, , headed mgm studios in culver city, california , borehamwood, england.


later work

after left mgm, solow executive producer of short-lived nbc tv series man atlantis (packaged own production company, owned taft broadcasting) , produced award-winning feature-length documentary elvis: s way is, starring elvis presley.


along robert h. justman, wrote inside star trek: real story, published pocket books in 1996. according publishers weekly, told solow, star trek s executive in charge of production, , justman, star trek s co-producer, arguably definitive history of tv show...with plenty of behind-the-scenes material of interest trek fans, book puts deal of emphasis on show s business side, elucidating production difficulties, cost overruns , seemingly constant debate nbc on show s future. although solow credited being first call gene roddenberry great bird of galaxy , drawn 1 of george takei s throwaway lines, mr sulu, original series episode man trap , robert justman coined phrase. solow thought name silly.


he married yvonne fern solow, (aka. dr. harrison solow) wrote book, gene roddenberry: last conversation (1994). 2005, solow , wife living in south-west wales, part-time lecturer @ media department of university of wales, lampeter, returning malibu in 2009. during time @ lampeter, solow became writer-in residence , learned welsh.
