you don t say! began local series on los angeles station ktla in november 1962 jack barry, still in exile networks in wake of 1950s quiz show scandals, host.

nbc (1963–1969)

you don t say! moved nbc s afternoon lineup on april 1, 1963 @ 3:30 pm eastern (2:30 central) tom kennedy replacing barry host. of run, show placed solid second against popular cbs soap edge of night , numerous weak abc soap operas. nighttime version in 1964 not successful, running january 7 may 12.

on july 15, 1968, 1 life live debuted on abc @ 3:30/2:30 , ratings success. in may have been largest housecleaning of daytime schedule ever, nbc dropped don t say! , 3 other games (personality, eye guess, , match game) on september 26, 1969. replacing don t say! on lineup serial bright promise, ran until 1972.

ktla (1975)

the 1975 revival given trial run on ktla, airing on sunday nights april june 1975. hosted local radio personality clark race kennedy regular panelist, these roles reversed later in show s brief run.

abc (1975)

with cbs revival of match game bringing celebrity games popularity, andrews managed interest abc in similar revival of don t say! kennedy called upon reassume role show s host, doing ten days after ending three-year stint on abc s split second; show entered abc s schedule on july 7 @ 4:00 pm (3:00 central), replacing money maze. however, many affiliates either tape-delayed network feed until next morning or preempted 4:00/3:00 slot entirely, garnering low ratings revival despite facing nbc s soap opera somerset , 2 low-rated cbs games, musical chairs , give-n-take.

meanwhile, cbs edge of night had been lowest-rated soap opera since move in 1972 2:30/1:30. world turns set expand full hour, network decided oust 19-year-old show (which debuted on same day in 1956 , packaged same company). in first instance of daytime serial moving network, procter , gamble productions agreed cbs terms , moved edge of night abc. abc, desperate affiliates on board, banked on show s instant familiarity , decided viable slot show 4:00/3:00.

on november 28, don t say! ended five-month run, giving way edge of night next monday; result, special christmas week of shows children playing, tom had plugged on-air during last few weeks , have continued tradition nbc era, never seen. according abc press release dated november 6, 1975, don t say! slated return abc s daytime schedule @ later time, unknown reasons, never occurred.

syndicated (1978–1979)

you don t say! returned on september 18, 1978 daily syndicated series, viacom enterprises (now cbs television distribution) serving co-producer. however, due tom kennedy hosting name tune, hosting reins taken instead jim peck.

this version didn t sell many markets, , ran tended in non-peak slots (save wpix in new york, aired @ 8:30 pm part of primetime syndicated game show block tic tac dough , tell truth, did khj-tv in los angeles). little no promotion, show ended run before making through first half of 1979.
