paul fürst s family descended dinkelsbühl; himself born in sierning, upper austria, , raised in salzburg. upon death of father, lived in house of uncle, owned confectionery @ no. 13, brodgasse. fürst took on uncle s business , trained apprentice in vienna, budapest, paris, , nice. in 1884 opened own pastry shop @ no. 13, brodgasse, he, own account, created mozart-bonbon praline after lengthy trials in 1890. specialty became increasingly popular, fürst established company continues sell mozartkugeln. however, had not applied patent protect invention , other salzburg cake shops began sell similar products.
