claude hudson trucks born on may 11, 1947 in jacksonville, florida. father optician. first discovered talent @ drumming when prompted band director in junior high: band director gave 3 of sticks , said, play me something, recalled. attended englewood high school, made first chair freshman. trucks in 2 bands before graduating: vikings, released 1 7-inch in 1964, , echoes, played beatles covers. trucks attended florida state university 1 year; once said majored in staying out of vietnam. grades suffered poor attendance , kicked out.


during time, trucks formed band, bitter ind., 2 high school friends. group played covers of bob dylan, byrds, , lovin spoonful. relocated daytona beach in hopes of finding greater success, turned away owners because patrons unable dance music. @ 1 club, met members of allman joys, including brothers duane , gregg allman. band changed name 31st of february fearing legal action new york nightclub bitter end. band signed deal vanguard records, , self-titled debut album released in 1968. group briefly toured allmans under various names, recording demos later released in 1972 duane & greg allman.
