photography based on visible fluorescence induced uv radiation uses same ultraviolet illumination in reflected uv photography. however, glass barrier filter used on lens must absorb or block ultraviolet , infrared light , must permit visible radiation pass. visible fluorescence produced in suitable subject when shorter, higher energy ultraviolet wavelengths absorbed, lose energy , emitted longer, lower energy visible wavelengths.


uv induced visible fluorescence photography must take place in darkened room, preferably black background. photographer should wear dark-colored clothes better results. (many light-colored fabrics fluoresce under uv.) camera or lens may used because visible wavelengths being recorded.


uv can induce infrared fluorescence , uv fluorescence depending on subject. uv induced non-visible fluorescence photography, camera must modified in order capture uv or ir images, , uv or ir capable lenses must used.


filters added uv illumination source narrow illuminant waveband. filter called exciter filter, , allows radiation pass needed induce particular fluorescence. before, barrier filter must placed in front of camera lens exclude undesired wavelengths.
