(1922; 8 volumes), mishmi man-eater (1928), nidification of birds of indian empire (1932), , cuckoo problems (1942; cuckoo chief interest within ornithology). made comprehensive collection of 50,000 indian birds eggs, part of donated natural history museum, spent lot of time working on egg collections india , thailand. eight-volume contribution fauna of british india, including ceylon , burma series became standard reference work on subject. part of collection, 152 specimens sold private museum of tzar ferdinand of bulgaria. served on government advisory committees on protection of birds , 1913 1936 honorary secretary , treasurer of british ornithologists union.


apart specimens collected or received others both of eggs , birds, baker maintained small menagerie time when posted in north cachar district. animals in collection included civets, bears, deer , crested serpent eagles, amur falcons, falconets , woodpeckers.


some of nest , eggs in collection have been considered of dubious provenance , there suggestions artificially made of clutches. charles vaurie have considered unreliable suggested destruction of egg collection.
