a tropical disturbance north of bahamas showed signs of having well-defined surface circulation , sufficient wind velocity, , upgraded tropical storm tammy @ 7:30 a.m. edt (1130 utc) october 5 east of florida, skipping tropical depression status. marked second time t name has been used name atlantic storm since alphabetical naming began in 1950; other time tanya in 1995 (later on there tomas in 2010 , tony in 2012).


tammy made landfall in vicinity of naval station mayport near jacksonville, florida late same evening. tammy moved rapidly inland across southern georgia , alabama before dissipating remnant low drifted south gulf of mexico. rains associated tammy became disconnected cyclonic circulation after landfall, , affected of georgia, south carolina , parts of north carolina. frontal system merged responsible flooding in northeast.
