at consistory of 21 february 1998, jaworski created cardinal john paul ii in pectore, 1 of 4 such secret cardinal appointments made while pope; jaworski s cardinalate made public @ consistory of 21 february 2001. 1 of cardinal electors participated in 2005 papal conclave selected pope benedict xvi. surpassed age of 80 in 2006, losing right participate in future conclaves. on october 2008, pope accepted resignation archbishop.
