development , construction

the government had given mtr corporation first refusal on 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m) site, subsequently sold in 1976 around hk$200 million cash , equity consideration.


the admiralty centre, united centre , queensway plaza formed part of development, , sit directly above station.


on 12 february 1980, segment of first mtr line between central , tsim sha tsui opened. @ time, admiralty station , central station 2 mtr stations on hong kong island. platforms began serving tsuen wan line on 10 may 1982.


admiralty expected transfer station island line. on 31 may 1985, first phase of island line (between admiralty , chai wan) opened, admiralty temporary western terminus of island line. facilitate cross-platform interchange, tsuen wan- , chai wan-bound platforms located on wide island platform on lower level, while central-bound , termination platforms shared wide island platform on upper level. when second part of island line (admiralty sheung wan) opened in 1986, termination platform became sheung wan-bound platform, while other platforms remained unchanged.

at 9:14 a.m. on 5 january 2004, 14 passengers suffered minor injuries when delusional 55-year-old man ignited 2 gas cylinders full of paint thinner in first compartment of central-bound train tsim sha tsui. driver decided complete journey , passengers evacuated train in admiralty.


station expansion , new lines

admiralty station expanded serve 2 additional lines: south island line on level l6 level , north south corridor of sha tin central link project on level l5.


the south island line platforms opened on 28 december 2016 after public open day on 24 december 2016, giving residents in southern district quicker access hong kong island s central business district. opening date delayed 2015 due technical problems in deep tunnels new platforms. north south corridor, expected open in 2021, allow commuters northeast new territories interchange directly east rail line.


a new underground interchange concourse natural light built east of current concourse, taking 1 level, allowing passengers transfer new lines. atrium expanded. station expansion, located under harcourt garden, incorporated 34 escalators , 5 lifts integrate existing station. sha tin central link 1 level under interchange concourse, south island line being directly below it. exits e1 , e2 being rebuilt 1 exit accommodate glass roof of interchange concourse. new exit e not open until sha tin central link platforms open. while sha tin central link tracks have sidings terminating trains south of station, south island line tracks end @ bumper blocks north of station no overrun track.




























the narrowest part of existing platforms on l3 level widened make better use of first , second car of tsuen wan line train, last 2 cars of island line trains. tsuen wan line passengers in tsuen wan direction have easier access these cars. station facilities, expansion brings along toilets @ paid area, lift between concourse, ground level , concourse, , art works in station.

the new station has 2 artworks. first sense of green tony ip, new, bamboo-covered landscaped deck on harcourt garden. second, urban soundscape otto li, located along either side of escalator shaft between new , current stations. depicts passengers journeys through admiralty.
