baker s publications focussed on north cachar hill district worked. collected eggs , published catalogue of them. published notes on species nesting had not been described allan octavian hume , sent these ibis journal. described new species elachura haplonota collected naga hunter him species had been described godwin-austen , walden under genus pnoepyga chocolatina (it called spelaeornis chocolatinus). series on bulbuls of region included paintings made him of birds set in backgrounds having ornate plants region.



in of writings pointed out errors in identification keys (for instance minivets) given e.w. oates in fauna of british india. followed more careful re-examination of specimens , established himself careful taxonomist.


this period of publications followed major series on ducks of india. these illustrated plates made j.g. keulemans. established him expert on game birds.



the work on ducks led further series on waders , other game birds , led multi-volume book on game-birds. series began in 1910 , ended in 1934. along way baker began revise list of species found in india based on work of hartert palearctic region. baker introduced trinomials in hand-list .

baker took interest in cuckoos , puzzled on how eggs matched of hosts despite single species parasitizing multiple species of hosts entirely different kinds of eggs. believed cuckoos laid egg on ground , carried them in bills nest of host. cited hume note on shooting cuckoo egg looking of host in bill. 1 of baker s correspondent provided him blue egg oviduct of female had been shot. in later note observed cuckoos destroyed 1 or 2 of host s eggs before adding own. towards end of life baker took renewed interest in ecology , evolution of cuckoos , topic of last book in 1942.
