Trimming Hair and Nails Dhu al-Hijjah







after sighting moon of dhu al-hijjah 1 should not remove hair of head, underarms or below navel , nor should person trim nails until having offered qurbani sacrifice. once sacrifice has been completed, may 1 attend these matters.


the prophet has said: whoever sees crescent of dhu al-hijjah , wants slaughter sacrifice, should not take hair , nor nails [tirmizi 1523]


this regarded recommended (mustahabb) action. person s sacrifice (qurbani) deemed complete if injunction not fulfilled.


a muslim legislated sunnah remove under arm hair , pubic hair on weekly basis; not doing after 40-day period considered sinful in sharia. after 40 days, hair removal considered compulsory upon person; in 10 days of dhu al-hijjah such person compelled adhere sunnah of hair removal rather mustahabb action of non-removal muslims religion follow sight of moon known among many countries
