the definitive management surgical removal of insulinoma. may involve removing part of pancreas, (whipple procedure , distal pancreatectomy).
medications such diazoxide , somatostatin can used block release of insulin patients not surgical candidates or otherwise have inoperable tumors.
streptozotocin used in islet cell carcinomas produce excessive insulin. combination chemotherapy used, either doxorubicin , streptozotocin, or fluorouracil , streptotozocin in patients doxorubicin contraindicated.[1]
in metastasizing tumors intrahepatic growth, hepatic arterial occlusion or embolization can used. [2]
