the regiment, called @ time royal newfoundland regiment of fencible infantry, involved in war of 1812. in may 1812, weeks before outbreak of war united states, major-general sir isaac brock, commander of majesty’s forces in upper canada, deployed regiment smaller companies or detachments, combined other units or regiments in defensive positions on province. employed marines on board naval vessels on great lakes part of majesty s provincial marine.

in 2012, on occasion of bicentennial of war of 1812, government of canada, responding recommendations made royal newfoundland regiment advisory council , similar recommendations made advisory committee minister of canadian heritage war of 1812, awarded royal newfoundland regiment 3 battle honours. these victory @ detroit in 1812, regiment s role @ battle of maumee in 1813 , general theatre honour ( defence of canada 1812-1815 ), regiment s broader service in successful engagements throughout war of 1812. colours emblazoned these battle honours presented regiment s 2nd battalion in presence of colonel-in-chief, hrh princess royal, in june 2016. ceremonies coincided events marking 100th anniversary of battle of beaumont-hamel.
