late on december 29, more 4 weeks after official end season, tropical disturbance developed in east-central atlantic. became more organized , declared tropical depression thirty on december 30. next day, thirty declared tropical storm naming zeta. zeta made turn toward west stalled , gradually weakened until dissipating on january 6, 2006.


zeta 1 of latest-forming tropical cyclones ever develop in recorded history of atlantic hurricane seasons; later storm hurricane alice of 1954–55, estimated have become tropical on december 30, 1954 @ 1:00 a.m. est (0600 utc). second recorded north atlantic tropical cyclone (after alice) exist in 2 calendar years. in addition, zeta surpassed alice longest-lived tropical cyclone form in december , cross on next year, , longest-lived january tropical cyclone. zeta dissipated on january 6, 2006.
