state road 976 begins on bird road @ homestead extension of florida s turnpike in westwood lakes, heading east commercial 6 lane divided highway, including many strip malls on route. crosses state road 985 before leaving westwood lakes , entering westchester. between sw 94th avenue , sw 92nd avenue, bird road passes bird bowl, 1 of few remaining bowling establishments in miami-dade county. bird road crosses state road 973 (galloway road), , borders northern end of tropical park, former site of race track had heyday in 1950s , 1960s, , miami-dade county park. @ northeastern border of tropical park, sr 976 has interchange palmetto expressway. @ southeast corner of intersection of ludlam road, block of vintage stores lines road. @ state road 959, road enters coral gables, median of road containing spreading banyan trees, similar nearby coral way. between state road 959 (red road) , state road 953 (lejeune road), road residential, crossing couple of golf courses. east of sr 953 , coral gables high school, resumes commercial businesses, , has intersections ponce de leon boulevard, median disappears, , heads towards eastern terminus of 1.


east of state road 976 s eastern terminus, bird road becomes se 30th street/bird avenue traverses coconut grove neighborhood of miami, intersecting sw 27th avenue , ending @ aviation avenue 1 block further east.


west of state road 976 s western terminus, road jogs south become sw 42nd street, , known bird road or bird drive, goes through residential area, several businesses , strip malls scattered through. bird drive ends @ sw 162nd avenue, more development continues built in area , road may extended further west in future.
