the architectural model of chachapoyas characterized circular stone constructions raised platforms constructed on slopes. walls decorated symbolic figures. structures such monumental fortress of kuelap , ruins of cerro olán prime examples of architectural style.


chachapoyan constructions may date 9th or 10th century; architectural tradition still thrived @ time of spanish conquest of inca empire until latter part of 16th century. sure, incas introduced own style after conquering chachapoyas, such in case of ruins of quchapampa in leimebamba district.


the presence of 2 funeral patterns typical of chachapoyas culture. 1 represented sarcophagi, placed vertically , located in caves excavated @ highest point of precipices. other funeral pattern groups of mausoleums constructed tiny houses located in caves worked cliffs.


chachapoyan handmade ceramics did not reach technological level of moche or nazca cultures. small pitchers decorated cordoned motifs. textile art, clothes colored in red. monumental textile precincts of gran pajatén had been painted figures of birds. chachapoyas used paint walls, extant sample in tunnels of san antonio in luya province reveals. these walls represent stages of ritual dance of couples holding hands.
