the nrw-express operates daily between aachen , hamm. used total of 4 railway lines :



dortmund–hamm line (built former cologne-minden railway company, cme) throughout (together regional , long-distance services),
the ruhr line between duisburg , dortmund (built former bergisch-märkische railway company) throughout (long-distance tracks, regional , long-distance services),
the cologne–duisburg line (built cme) through (long-distance tracks, see note below)
the aachen–cologne line (built former rhenish railway company) throughout (together regional , long-distance services).

in 4 6 track section between duisburg , düsseldorf, nrw-express runs throughout on long distance tracks, along rhein-express (re 5). contrast, rhein-haard-express (re 2), rhein-emscher-express (re 3), rhein-weser-express (re 6), rhein-hellweg-express (re 11) , rhein-ijssel-express (re 19) run on s-bahn tracks or. if available, so-called local tracks.


earlier, nrw-express used 2 other railway lines:



until 2002, hamm–minden railway (built cme) between bielefeld , hamm (together regional , long-distance services),
from 2002 2016, every 2 hours on hamm–warburg railway (built royal westphalian railway company) between paderborn , hamm (together regional , long-distance services).

the nrw-express complemented other rail passenger services. large portion of runs parallel s-bahn lines. following regional-express services run every hour along part of route:

between duisburg , cologne, rhein-express re 5,

between duisburg , düsseldorf, rhein-ijssel-express re 19.

additional services operate during peaks between aachen , cologne messe/deutz 5 minutes before regular services in order overcome overcrowding.
