the grey-necked wood rail found in argentina, bolivia, brazil, colombia, costa rica, ecuador, french guiana, guyana, panama, paraguay, peru, suriname, trinidad , tobago, uruguay, , venezuela. nominate subspecies cut off andes mountains , lives east of range in ecuador, peru, , bolivia; not found in southeastern interior of brazil. subspecies avicenniae found in coastal southeastern brazil, around são paulo.


the grey-necked wood rail s natural habitats subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical mangrove forests, , subtropical or tropical swamps. subspecies avicenniae, however, restricted mangrove forests. grey-necked wood rail can found sea level elevations around 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), although wanderers have been recorded @ elevations 2,300 metres (7,500 ft) in colombia.
