the lesser yellow-headed vulture 53–66 cm (21–26 in) in length, wingspan of 150–165 cm (59–65 in) , tail length of 19–24 cm (7.5–9.4 in). weight ranges 0.95 1.55 kg (2.1 3.4 lb). plumage black green sheen. throat , sides of head featherless. head , neck bare of feathers, , skin yellow, reddish forehead , nape , gray-blue crown. irises of eyes red, legs white, , beak flesh-colored. eye has single incomplete row of eyelashes on upper lid , 2 rows on lower lid. tail rounded , relatively short vulture; tip of closed wing extends beyond tail. immature lesser yellow-headed vultures have browner plumage, dusky head, , white nape.


the beak thick, rounded, , hooked @ tip. front toes long small webs @ bases , not adapted grasping. opening of nostril longitudinal, , nostrils lack septum. new world vultures, lesser yellow-headed vulture lacks syrinx, , therefore unable make sound other low hiss.


it differs in appearance similar greater yellow-headed vulture in several ways. smaller , less heavily built greater yellow-headed vulture , has shorter, thinner tail. plumage browner greater yellow-headed vulture s dark, glossy black plumage. legs lighter in color, , head more orange-tinged more yellow head of greater yellow-headed vulture. flight less steady of greater yellow-headed vulture. lesser yellow-headed vulture prefers live in savannas, opposed preferred forest habitat of greater yellow-headed vulture.
