the monorail


the monorail inaugurated in 1977 rest of formerly underdeveloped wild asia section of zoo. there 6 9-car monorails on 1.6 miles (2.6 km) ride, built rohr; ride refurbished in 2007. animals in zoo can seen on ride such przewalski s horse, indian elephant, , plethora of even-toed ungulates.


this ride takes visitors through 40-acre (16 ha) area recreates mud wallows , pastures, forests , riverbanks of asia. visitors see siberian tigers, indian elephants, , rhinos, , wild horses in natural habitats. monorail travels along bronx river, visitors can see native animals including egrets, turtles, , ducks. monorail accessible wheelchairs 26 wide. smaller chairs available @ monorail platform visitors wider wheelchairs or motorized scooters.
