the site former location of star , garter hotel, closed in 1906. building used military hospital, known star , garter home disabled sailors , soldiers, during world war i.

the star , garter home received royal charter in 1979, adding prefix royal name. since opening of second home @ solihull in 2008 charity has used plural form of name, royal star & garter homes .
