plot

the story focuses on 3 high school students, makoto mizuhara, katsuhiko jinnai , nanami jinnai, , history teacher masamichi fujisawa, mysteriously transported fantastical world of el-hazard. el-hazard threatened possible war between human nations , insectoid bugrom tribe.

the magnificent world

the central conflict in el-hazard: magnificent world (神秘の世界エルハザード, shinpi no sekai eru hazādo, lit. magnificent world of el-hazard ) focuses on makoto, along nanami, mr. fujisawa , human residents of el-hazard fight against jinnai s conquest, other, more sinister machinations lie below surface.

el-hazard s causal loop

at crux of el-hazard plot line causal loop, or example of predestination paradox. first ova begins makoto meeting ifurita first time on earth. after giving him warm greeting, revealing somehow knows him, sends him el-hazard. later on in series, makoto discovers ifurita entombed in labyrinth, had been kept since ancient times. upon second meeting ifurita, makoto puzzled fact not recognize him, nor treat him same demeanor evoked in first encounter.

over course of series, makoto manages free ifurita enslavement jinnai (the master of power key staff, , therefore master.) in response, ifurita comes love makoto, events involving eye of god (see below) force drift through time , space ten-thousand years until entombed under later become site of shinonome high school. series returns beginning, time ifurita s perspective. after warmly greeting makoto, sends him el-hazard in order trigger of events that, makoto s perspective, had yet take place. after, ifurita reunited older makoto has transported her key, enabling them both return el-hazard together.

in wanderers, eye controlled within rather stairway sky, , character ifurita acts key controlling weapon. jinnai attempts use ifurita control eye, once connected, ifurita s true purpose demon god revealed, , attempts destroy el-hazard. makoto stops eye going out of control , temporarily lost, finds way el-hazard @ end of series.

in alternative world, eye of god appears, 1 shattered version of original , not seem need princess , 3 priestesses unseal it. origin not explained.
