the v-42 manufactured in united states wr case & co. after series of leg injuries incurred during training, original leather sheath reinforced metal in later versions designed prevent needle-like tip penetrating sheath. since force trained fighting in cold weather conditions, sheath designed long, hang beneath bottom of g.i. parka.
