persian officially national language of iran. arabic language, language of koran taught grades 6-11. in addition arabic, students required take 1 foreign language class in grades 7-12. although other foreign languages such german, french, spanish , chinese offered in urban schools, english continues desired language.


kanoun-e-zabaan-e-iran or iran s language institute affiliated center intellectual development of children , young adults founded in 1979. persian, english, french, spanish, german , arabic taught on 175,000 students during each term.


english language studied in rahnamaei (literally meaning, guidance or orientation), equivalent middle school in other countries. middle school period of 3 years , covers grades 6-8 students aged 11 13 years old. government considering teaching english language primary school level. however, quality of english education in schools not satisfactory , of students in order obtain better english fluency , proficiency have take english courses in private institutes.


presently, there on 5000 foreign language schools in country, 200 of situated in tehran. few television channels air weekly english , arabic language sessions, particularly university candidates preparing annual entrance test.
