high school

curley attended st. michael high school, competed in cross country , track under coach terry thompson until graduation in 2006. curley recorded first-place finish in arizona s 2005 1a state cross country championship.


collegiate

despite having success in high school, curley declined recruiting offers arizona state university , university of arizona. former distance runner greg wenneborg distance coach @ pima community college, small community college track record excellent distance runners such abdihakem abdirahman. after curley s first practice pima, coach wenneborg offered him scholarship, , curley enrolled in pima s two-year program. @ 2006 uc san diego triton invitational, curley set new pima record 5000 meters @ 14:23.26.


post-collegiate

curley qualified 2012 olympic trials in houston, texas, 2:39 marathon debut considered disappointment considering credentials. although discouraged, made appearance @ 2012 columbus marathon in ohio, ended winning race despite not taking lead until last 6 miles. after win @ columbus, curley signed professional contract mizuno.
