1962: house vienna

the house built on slope 2 floors, main floor connected garden. includes number of variable sliding elements allow spatial groupings. avoiding solid floor plan splits, schwanzer created atmosphere of large living space. choice of fine materials adds intimacy of place.

the steel-framed building designed austrian pavilion @ brussels world fair of 1958. rectangular structure includes courtyard between pylons. ground floor constructed covered space.


initially building designed temporary structure. later transferred swiss garden in vienna, adapted use museum of modern art. framework of information pavilion used entrance hall, office , staff rooms, small exhibition space , lecture theatre. courtyard closed in (covered) , ground floor fitted glass windows. provided 3 areas that, in addition museum in exhibition area, space available other purposes. purist design of building in line international standards of modern architecture.


1967: world s fair in montreal - city of vienna kindergarten

the city of vienna kindergarten building @ montreal expo designed have facade depicting world of children. achieved means of simple modular system. through familiar elements of toy building sets, designed make easier children adapt unfamiliar atmosphere in kindergarten community means of intimate, affective relationship. children should able enjoy building. should happy go there , want return, remembered colourful modular bricks.


in contrast colourful external appearance, interior of building kept plain provide opportunities children use imagination, creating world in alone provided colour , activity.


the combination of successful viennese kindergarten floor plan layouts resulted in richly structured common room, changing room , toilets. included various other areas activities such housekeeping, dolls, building , painting. interior space protrudes centre of building, bring inside outside in common habitat children.


1967: austria pavilion montreal

to express multiformity of austria, schwanzer designed impressive building consisting of crystalline structures. design of building resulted in simultaneous reduction of components of typical basic elements, reminiscent of geometrical precision of molecular structure of crystals in cubic elements. indications of mountains, precious stones , landscapes should addressed, notions of precision, geometry, technology , system.


the prefabricated units using aluminium frames designed self-sustainable construction. exterior , interior wall constructed one. assembly put using triangular surface elements, can modular, cube-like forms. represented different examples of variation. building appeared alive growth , change possible. austria pavilion set out transcend need residential buildings no more objects, instead advocating sculptural installation , aggressive architecture industrially prefabricated components.


1968: vienna city centre project

the project aimed partly cover danube canal, use space parking lot on lower level , pedestrian level above, connected footbridges sidewalks adjacent road sections. city centre, connected railway , subway system, designed centrally located open space, form tourists directly embark on city tour buses , airport buses. numerous boutiques , shops located on several tiers function large open department store urban atmosphere.

the bmw administration tower built between 1968 , 1972, in time 1972 summer olympics. 101 m (roughly 331 feet) building located near olympic village , cited 1 of notable examples of architecture in munich. large cathedral exterior supposed mimic shape of tire in racing car, garage representing cylinder head.


the main tower consists of 4 vertical cylinders standing next , across each other. each cylinder divided horizontally in centre mold in facade. notably, these cylinders not stand on ground, suspended on central support tower. during construction, individual floors assembled on ground , elevated, allowing simultaneous execution of shell , finished work. tower has diameter of 52.30 meters (roughly 171 feet). building has 22 occupied floors, 2 of basements , 18 serve office space. layout allows functional summary of entire floor, while preserving intimacy of group space in three-quarter circle.

the bmw museum located next administration building. established in 1972. futuristic building known salad bowl or white cauldron. circular base 20 meters in diameter. flat roof covers 40 meters. escalator takes visitors top floor can down on exhibition.

in line educational centre s intended function, schwanzer designed defined , organizable building, providing interiors , working spaces flexibility needed adaptation new requirements.


1975: austrian embassy in brasilia

the building characterized desire achieve balanced overall effect. in outer appearance, building represents country high degree of cultural heritage while interior induces intimate atmosphere of hospitality , charm.


the gleaming white building in local prefabricated lightweight concrete elements provides strong contrast between clear blue sky , red soil of brazil. shallow, narrow watercourse, rather fencing or hedging, defines boundary between property , street. ground floor reception rooms occupy full extent of site. living quarters , offices lining cantilevered upper floor shielded strong sunlight nevertheless provide views of baroque garden, embassy s iconic green surroundings , open countryside beyond.
