after graduating architectural association, hopkins set own practice.


in 1976 set architectural practice hopkins architects husband. notable couple s own home, built (1976) in hampstead, london, used flexible live-work space, office business next 8 years , home , 3 children. house had transparent glass walls , exposed steel frame lack of internal walls. continued create buildings using innovative new materials, example using lightweight fabric mound stand @ lord s cricket ground (1987).


in 1994 patty , michael hopkins jointly awarded royal institute of british architects (riba) royal gold medal architecture, medal citation saying best characterises work of michael , patricia hopkins equal appeal ordinary people , architects. patty hopkins had major role in new glyndebourne opera house project, completed same year.


she became honorary fellow of royal institute of architects in scotland (rias) in 1996 , american institute of architects (aia) in 1997. gave keynote speech women in architecture luncheon @ langham hotel in 2014.


on work woman architect hopkins said in 2011 when younger, older men rather patronising. still find clients uncomfortable women architects, can t exercises me. m not feminist. m architect, trying concentrate on work.
