brentford (loan , permanent transfer)

cooke joined division 3 side brentford on two-month loan in december 1984 , later signed permanently £20,000 fee, on recommendation of former cambridge manager john docherty. cooke found form, scoring 16 goals in 31 games , netting proved consolation in 3–1 1985 football league trophy final defeat wigan athletic. cooke finished 1984–85 season both brentford , cambridge united s top scorer, third time in history feat had been managed. 3 years of mid-table mediocrity followed , cooke departed brentford in december 1987, having scored 64 goals in 150 games bees.


millwall

cooke reunited john docherty , joined division 2 high-flyers millwall on 11 december 1987 £30,000 fee, scoring 1 goal in 5 appearances during remainder of 1987–88 season. unable break forward pairing of tony cascarino , teddy sheringham , departed lions in september 1988.


kettering town

cooke dropped non-league football join conference side kettering town in september 1988. had prolific spell poppies, scoring 49 goals in 95 appearances across 3 seasons in club consistently challenged promotion football league.
