Background Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017

prior 2017 contest, israel had participated in eurovision song contest thirty-nine times since first entry in 1973. israel has won contest on 3 occasions: in 1978 song a-ba-ni-bi performed izhar cohen , alphabeta, in 1979 song hallelujah performed milk , honey , in 1998 song diva performed dana international. since introduction of semi-finals format of eurovision song contest in 2004, israel has, point, managed qualify final 6 times, including 3 top ten results in 2005 shiri maimon , hasheket shenish ar placing fourth, in 2008 boaz , fire in eyes placing ninth, , in 2015 nadav guedj , golden boy placing ninth. israel had failed qualify final 4 consecutive years between 2011 , 2014 prior qualification in 2015. in 2016, hovi star represented israel in stockholm, sweden song made of stars . ended 14th out of 26 entries in final.
