woodrats construct houses nesting, food caching, , predator escape. these can have 6 entrances , 8 internal chambers, including both nests , food caches. houses 36 cm (14 in) high , around 100 cm (39 in) across @ base not unusual. nests constructed of dried vegetation, fibrous grass parts or shredded stems.
males mark territory rubbing on ground, depositing musky sebum secreted large sebaceous glands on abdomen. females, however, scent mark first digging, , rubbing flanks, legs or cheeks on excavated soil. active year-round.
