the 1st battalion, krrc deployed north africa , saw action part of pivot group within 7th armoured division @ battle of sidi rezegh in november 1941, first battle of el alamein in july 1942 , second battle of el alamein in october 1942 during western desert campaign. rifleman john beeley awarded posthumous victoria cross actions during operation crusader in north africa. served in italy, in 1st armoured division s 2nd armoured brigade, independent 9th armoured brigade , 6th armoured division s 61st infantry brigade.


the 2nd battalion part of british expeditionary force (bef) landed in france in may 1940. battalion, part of 30th infantry brigade, 1st armoured division, lost in defence of calais, brigade slowed german advance , enabled dunkirk evacuation proceed. reformed battalion took part in battle of gazala in may 1942 , second battle of el alamein in october 1942 during north african campaign. following normandy landings in june 1944, battalion served in 4th armoured brigade , in subsequent campaign in north-west europe


the 7th battalion (the queen victoria s rifles) part of bef; 2nd battalion, part of 30th infantry brigade , lost in defence of calais. 9th battalion (the rangers) deployed mediterranean theatre part of 1st armoured brigade in 7th armoured division. saw action in greek campaign in april 1941 before being disbanded in august 1942.
